Christmas comes early for Cambridge City Korfball Club
Cambridge City Korfball Club was given an early Christmas gift, receiving an Awards for All grant.
The £10,000 grant will allow the club to expand its pilot projects for children (aged 3-13), as well as contribute to the continued development of its successful senior club.
City piloted a multi-sports skills programme (the Tykes), for children aged 3-6, and a Junior section, for children aged 7-13, during 2006. Both incorporated FUNdamentals skills to develop childrens' confidence and enthusiasm for playing games.
Both clubs proved so successful, City decided to try and extend access and participation to more members of the Cambridge community - something the grant will make possible.
Cambridge City Korfball Club head coach Janine Collier said: "The award will ensure that the club can make a significant capital investment in equipment and coach and administrator education to ensure that the multi-sports skills programme and the junior korfball programme launched in September 2006 are sustainable in the long term.
"The projects will enable and encourage more people to participate in local sport, promoting a healthier lifestyle, teamwork, and the social opportunities associated with membership of a sports club."
Awards for All is the small grants scheme administered by the Big Lottery Fund on behalf of Lottery good cause funders, Arts Council England, Big Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport England. The scheme makes awards of between £300 and £10,000 to grass roots community groups and voluntary organisations.
It's been a successful end of year for City, with the club also recently becoming the first korfball club in the country to be awarded cross-sport quality accreditation Clubmark, and the first club to be awarded Clubmark by Cambridge and Peterborough sports partnership Living Sport.
